In 1615, explorer Samuel de Champlain stopped along the north shore of the Oneida River and beheld the present site of Brewerton. The historic site of Fort Brewerton, a communications center during the Revolutionary War, remains a popular spot for visitors. Camillus was established in 1799 and is one of the oldest towns in Onondaga County. Established in 1844, the Village of Fayetteville has a long and distinguished history. It was one of the most popular destinations for abolitionist leaders, and home to one of the nation’s best-known suffragists, Matilda Joslyn Gage.
